For the Christian with Anxiety

Updated: Mar 25, 2021

Are you a Christian that struggles with anxiety? Then friend, you are in good company.

I don’t like that the meme takes the Lord’s name in vain— but that aside—to me it is the perfect illustration of what anxiety tries to do to us as Christians.

When I think of it— does that dialogue sounds similar to a serpent that made Eve reconsider God’s goodness and heart for her?

These days all we have to do is turn on a device to feel anxiety slithering into our hearts and whispering fear that makes us question if God is really in charge and if He really knows what’s best for us. As a Christian with anxiety I have trouble keeping pace with the world of busy schedules and touch screens everywhere, not to mention the added stress of COVID-19.

These days as a mom, a trip to the grocery store is enough for a panic attack.

It’s a vicious spiral: anxiety, fear, shame, isolation.

Verses for The Anxious Christian

Bible verses are a great way to remember God in anxious times.

Jesus says He has given us the power to overcome all the power of the enemy and nothing shall harm us. Take that fear!

Luke 10:19- I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.

I teach my girls to recite this truth when they are afraid and anxious.

Philippians 2:10 So that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

There is power in the name of Jesus. Whisper it, say it, pray it, cry it, proclaim it.

When you are feeling anxious and alone, Cling to The TRUTH.

Satan Tries to blind us from God's constant provision and presence

When Adam and Eve feel shame of their new awareness of nakedness God doesn’t laugh, belittle or ignore, He personally makes them clothing.

(Genesis 3:21) The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them.

God clothes Adam and Eve with animal skin but ultimately He clothes us with His own body and blood in His own son. But more! Through Jesus He clothes us with His own power from on high

Luke 24:49 I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.

Through Jesus--through His Resurrection power that lives within us--we can crush the serpent and his lies.

So guess what anxiety—because of my God-- you're not right. 🙌🏻😉❤️

Friends, the anxious thoughts may persist. The ruminating, the fear, the sweaty palms, brain fog, and persistent worry may slither into your moments whispering dread and fear that makes you question God's presence, peace, and provision--but we may whisper, "anxiety do your worst!" We know that He is here, He is for us, and as we return to Him He restores our minds and souls.
